‘You do kid’s research? How cute!’: An introduction to developmental psychology (and a primer to dispel misconceptions that child developmental research is simple and cutesy).

A common misconception of child developmental research is that it’s ‘cutesy’. However, developmental psychology is one of the most rigorous, well-controlled disciplines within psychology. Additionally, some do not recognise the important implications that child developmental research illuminates about human nature. For example, research can help us understand what makes us human (compared to other species), how we develop (and perhaps evolved), and what aspects of ourselves are innate (nature) and what are cultivated (nurture).
